Chef Haikal epitomizes passion! After a road accident in Thailand left him paralysed from the neck down, Chef Haikal worked very hard to get back on his feet. He was wheelchair bound in the kitchen but that didn’t stop him from working hard in pursuit of his passion.
Despite being wheelchair-bound after the accident, the plucky chef was back in the kitchen within a year and was part of the team that helped Alma earn its first Michelin star in 2016. He then took over as executive chef when chef de cuisine Christophe Lerouy left later that year.
With pure grit and determination, aided by rehabilitative physiotherapy, Chef Haikal recovered his mobility, moving from a wheelchair to walking around the Alma kitchen by balancing against walls.
Come listen to Chef Haikal talk about his journey and introduce you to the magic of Singapore cuisine at The Stories of Taste & Passion, happening at the Singapore Pavilion, Expo 2020 Dubai.
