Come experience The Stories of Taste & Passion event, happening at the Singapore Pavilion, at Expo 2020. Taking place on Saturday, January 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, this exciting event is part of the SingapoReimagine (SRI) initiative by Singapore Tourism Board. As the world starts moving again, Singapore is committed to making your travel experiences unforgettable and enjoyable, through safety, technology, experiences and sustainability.

Discover Singapore’s stories of taste and passion. Chat with Singaporean Michelin Star Chef Haikal Johari, who will be at the Singapore Pavilion, Expo 2020, sharing his inspiring life story and insights on the global and Singapore food scene.

Meet Chef Haikal at the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2020, on January 22, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm

You can also be the first to sample recipes from Dubai home-grown startup, Naksha’s gourmet recipe kits created with Michelin Star Chef Haikal. These kits are a simple and delicious way to recreate authentic Singaporean cuisine in your own home, quickly and with no fuss.

Choose from:

  • Ngoh Hiang - the Singaporean version of five-spice meat rolls wrapped with rice paper, baked rather that fried.
  • Or tuck into the warm comforting spice of Lemak Cili Padi, the traditional Malay coconut curry, served with rice noodles
  • You can also taste the sharp hot and sour seafood stew, Asam Pedas, served with jasmine rice.

Naksha’s Singapore Collection of gourmet recipe kits are created in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board and will be available in major supermarkets across the UAE soon.

Chef HaiKal


Chef Haikal epitomizes passion! After a road accident in Thailand left him paralysed from the neck down, Chef Haikal worked very hard to get back on his feet. He was wheelchair bound in the kitchen but that didn’t stop him from working hard in pursuit of his passion.

Despite being wheelchair-bound after the accident, the plucky chef was back in the kitchen within a year and was part of the team that helped Alma earn its first Michelin star in 2016. He then took over as executive chef when chef de cuisine Christophe Lerouy left later that year.

With pure grit and determination, aided by rehabilitative physiotherapy, Chef Haikal recovered his mobility, moving from a wheelchair to walking around the Alma kitchen by balancing against walls.

Naksha was inspired by travel. In 2020, when the world was in lockdown, cooking offered Naksha co-founders Nisha Ramisetty and Sam Williams an escape - and it gave them the idea for Naksha.

Singapore Tourism Board has collaborated with Naksha to create three tasty and authentic dishes designed by Michelin star Chef Haikal Johari.

The Singapore-themed gourmet recipe kits have exclusive hand-drawn artwork by Singaporean artist Tan Xi Zi @messymsxi.
